The KIANA-1 computer program has been developed by the writer to predict the thermal and mechanical behavior of zircaloy-clad UO2 fuel rods during their irradiation life under steady state conditions. In the first part of this paper a short description of the structure of the program is presented, its range of application is described and the physical phenomena, which are modeled, are briefly reviewed. Its second part deals with some examples of KIANA-1 analysis and modeling capabilities.
