The equipartition law of statistical mechanics is written in arbitrary phase coordinates. It allows the establishment of some identities for average values along trajectories. These identities contain arbitrary functions. Based on the particular choice of these functions, some relations for average values are derived. Most of the results do not employ the Hamiltonian structure of the governing equations. © 1993.
