Abstract

Simple formulae describing the generation of linearly frequency swept pulses in optical fibers and their subsequent compression are derived. The appropriate initial value problem is approximatively solved using partially the inverse scattering method and conservation laws for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. © 1983.
