Abstract

1. 1. Starfish H6PD†and G6PD were partially purified and sea-urchin G6PD was purified to a homogeneous state, and their properties were examined. 2. 2. Antibodies specific to starfish H6PD and to sea-urchin G6PD were prepared. 3. 3. Reactivities of anti-starfish H6PD antibody to starfish and sea-urchin G6PD, and of anti-sea-urchin G6PD antibody to starfish H6PD were examined by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. 4. 4. The results demonstrated that H6PD and G6PD share at least one antigenic determinant in common, thus providing evidence for our prediction that the two enzymes have diverged from a common ancestral molecule. © 1980.
