The application of zeolite EU-1 in the isopropylation of benzene is described. The selectivity to cumene is maximum at lower space velocities and higher benzene-to-propene molar ratios. Use of isopropanol as an alkylating agent does not affect the selectivity. The catalytic activity is compared with that of H-ZSM-5 zeolite. The stable activity and higher di-isopropylbenzene (DIPB) formation over H-EU-1 catalyst can be explained on the basis of side-pockets. © 1991.
