Abstract

Lanthanide(III) nosylates are novel, recyclable catalysts prepared from the noncorrosive and inexpensive p-nitrotoluenesulfonic acid and the corresponding lanthanide(III) oxide. With 5-10% catalyst loading, atom economic nitration of simple aromatic compounds was achieved in good to high yields. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
