Laser multiphoton dissociation-multiphoton ionization (MPD-MPI) spectra of VOCl3have been obtained in the ranges 430-440 and 380-390 nm. V+and VO+were the only ions produced by the pulsed dye laser. We find that both the V+and VO+spectra are continuous and structureless. The laser power dependence of the production of V+ions is substantially stronger than that of VO+in those wavelength ranges. These results are interpreted in terms of a novel pathway for formation of V+by photo-dissociation of VO+. © 1992.
