Abstract

To reduce drive loss in engine valves, we established a technique for precisely measuring sliding loss in timing chains and timing chain guides of engines. The technique allows for the chain loss to be attributed to timing chain guides and other parts. This allowed us to determine the effect of each loss factor. © 2001 Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. and Elsevier Science B.V.
