Abstract

Recently the concept of the "third body" (a dissipative intermediate layer arising between contacting moving bodies) began to develop in theoretical tribology. In this paper an attempt is made to describe the state of the third body, taking into account some novel experimental data and their theoretical analysis. © 1990.
