Abstract

A new novel one-dimensional (1D) polymer involving both tetra- and hexacoordinate mercury(II) complex, [Hg3(4,4′-bipy)2(CH3COO)2(SCN)4]n, has been synthesized and characterized. The single-crystal X-ray data of the compound show the complex to be an infinite 1D helical chain, two of the Hg atoms are four-coordinate and one is six-coordinate.
