Abstract

A numerical experiment was carried out to simulate the magnetohydrodynamic flow of a power law fluid through a flat duct. Several techniques were invoked in an attempt to obtain the results for various combinations of values of the power law index of the fluid and the Hartmann number. Because of the singularity in the derivatives of the velocity at the center of the channel, some difficulties were encountered. The manner in which these were resolved is discussed in detail. The simulation results reveal that the power-law index of the fluid has a significant influence on the development of the Hartmann layers for large values of the Hartmann number. © 1993.
