A source of air pollution is the waste gases formed in technical processes. Physical, chemical, and biological procedures have been developed for cleaning such gases. Their application depends primarily on the amount and temperature of the waste gases as well as the nature and concentration of the pollutants they contain. A survey of chemical and biological procedures, in which oxidation reactions are used for cleaning waste gases from chemical plants, is presented.
