A description is given of the connection between the structure of polyacetylene and its stability. The first part of the paper analyses the general principles of producing materials with specific properties. The second part describes the experimental methods and model for producing polyacetylene with a low content of defects. It is shown that the defects in polyacetylene are formed by the disordered formation of the solid phase. © 1991.
