Abstract

The addition of ZnCl2to the chiral lithium amide base3 dramatically affects the level of asymmetric induction observed in asymmetric enolisation reactions of certain cyclic ketones, the enantiomeric excess of aldol products obtained increasing on addition ofca. 0.4 equivalents of ZnCl2, but then decreasing again if more ZnCl2is employed. © 1995 Elsevier Science Ltd.
