Abstract

A projectile fragment separator called RIPS was completed at RIKEN to facilitate radioactive-beam experiments. The setup is unique in affording upgraded beam intensities and polarized beams. A large number of experiments on unstable-nucleus reactions were performed to study properties of neutron-halo nuclei and reaction rates of astrophysical interest. Nuclear moments of exotic nuclei were determined with polarized beams. The scope of the RIPS experiments is described. © 1992.
