High-spin states of the Ba and Ce isotopes are studied in the framework of two quasiparticles coupled to a core which is described either by a triaxial rotor or by the IBA model. Bands built upon both (νh11 2)-2 and (πh11 2)2 configurations are considered, which is found to be necessary for a proper description of band-crossing systematics in this region. Reasonable agreement is obtained between the recent experimental results and the calculated energy spectra and electromagnetic properties. © 1985.
