Introduction. - Fighting doping is permitted thanks to detection of forbidden molecules, not on detection of induced metabolic deviations, what is possible now using metabonomics. Results. - From studies performed on bovines treated with different anabolics, it is possible with urinary fingerprinting obtained by 2D-NMR, to produce factorial maps summarising main part of the relevant metabolic information. From such a specific biological signature of anabolic response, it is possible to interpret some of these biochemical disruptions. Conclusion. - Tracking down doping in sportsmen could be reinforced as promisingly shown in cattle thanks to a prior detection of the suspected family of anabolics. © 2005 Elsevier SAS.
