Abstract

Chemically generated anions fullerenes C60and C70in the benzonitrile solution of three reducing agents (Na, K, and TDAE) are spectrally characterized. It is demonstrated that the spectra of chemically generated anions are similar to that observed for the electrochemically produced fullerene anions. Reduction of C60in oxygen-containing solvent show that the monoanion is relatively stable against oxidation while its dianion is oxidized quickly with formation of C60(O2-)n, leading to a broad absorption band in 900-1000 nm region.
