Abstract

Metal particles (Ag, Cu, Au, Li, Na, K and Ca with mean diameters of ≈100 Å have been prepared by means of the gas aggregation technique and subsequently isolated in Ar matrices with filling factors of less than or equal to 0.1%. The optical absorption spectra of the various colloidal metals show distinct surface plasmon absorption bands (in the spectral range 2000-7000 A). These spectra are compared with those calculated from existing bulk optical data. © 1982.
