Abstract

The distribution of the starting field for a large Barkhausen discontinuity in an iron whisker is investigated as function of sweep rate of the applied magnetic field and of temperature. The results imply that the random component of the jump field is due to stochastic precursor magnetization processes rather than to direct thermal activation. © 1984, All rights reserved.
