Abstract

This paper falls into three parts: first, a discussion of literature as a 'hypersemanticized' use of language; second, a review of the relevance of linguistic analysis to our understanding of 'how the language of literature works'; and third, an examination of topicalization as a stylistic mechanism. © 1976.
