About

Research activity at the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Insitution Milà and Fontanals is organized around the main topic STABILITY AND CHANGE IN HUMAN SOCIETY: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. Taking advantage of recent theoretical and methodological developments the group of ARCHAEOLOGY and the group of ANTHROPOLOGY investigate mechanisms of stability and change in human societies with a diachronic perspective. This is done in two research lines. Stability and change in human societies: Social identity and pluri-culturalism investigates the social presentation and modification of the body among present-day groups of immigrant coming into contact with different cultural contexts. In this investigation, the body is taken as starting point to analyse wider social dynamics involving social contact, integration and possible conflicts. Stability and change in human societies: Hunter-gatherers in transition investigates, using an ethnoarchaeological perspective, forager societies and the social dynamics taking place among foragers before, during and after contact with farmers societies.
