Life Cycle Assessment

About

I am PhD student in E-JUST and I am working on the life cycle assessment of residential building in Egypt. Life Cycle Assessment is a useful method for the identification of the environmental impact of materials, products or systems. From the research literature review, there are no life cycle assessment (LCA) studies in Egypt, thus, the study suggests framework to applying the LCA approach in the all stages from cradle to gate approach. The method applied was the life cycle assessment ruled by the ISO 14000 series and the software SimaPro 8.1 will be used for the calculation of input and output of each system. The research will chose existing buildings in New Assiut which is Ibn Baytak Model. Regarding to the Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) Database, Egypt suffered from shortage of it, thus, the researcher suggests a mechanism to synthesize Egyptian LCI Database from the International Database. Eventually, this study represents the first step to apply the LCA approach in Egyptian building as an Environmental Impact Assessment Tool.
