About

I would like to understand the role of epigenetic modifications in evolution and development. More specifically, I am fascinated with the effect of epigenetic factors such as microRNAs, methylation and chromatin structure in brain cells and developmental bases for certain animal behaviors (monogamy in prairie voles, i.e. Microtus ochrogaster). The hypothesis I want to test with my work is that epigenetic factors act as regulators of evolutionary change. My principal motivation is to contribute to our understanding of how behavioral phenotypes are shaped by a concerted interaction of environmental, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms.
