Alessandra Galiè has more than ten years of experience undertaking gender analysis in agricultural research for development. Currently, she works as a Gender Scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) based in Kenya. Her research focuses on integrating gender issues in livestock value chains - across animal genetics, feeds and forages, and animal health - and on undertaking strategic gender research on empowerment and food and nutrition security. Before joining ILRI she worked at the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) on gender research in empowerment, seed governance and participatory plant breeding. Alessandra holds a PhD in social sciences applied to agricultural research from Wageningen University, Netherlands, and an MA in social anthropology of development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
