Alex Healing is Principal Researcher of Security Visual Analytics at British Telecom (BT) based in Suffolk, UK. He received a joint honours degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from The University of Edinburgh before entering industrial research in 2005. He leads a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and developers which has built a web-based visual analytic system for a wide range of applications including large-scale network security. This involves transfer of several years of research through to productisation, and the software output has been available on the market since 2012. He has published in several conferences and journals and is co-author of five patent applications. He is a member of the British Computer Society (BCS) and was awarded the title of 'Young IT Professional of the Year' in 2012. He has six years’ experience as technical lead on several large collaborative projects funded in part by the UK Ministry of Defence (Nexus and Hyperion DIF-DTC) and the UK Technology Strategy Board (SATURN) in areas of data fusion, command and control situational awareness, and adaptive interactive visualisation & data mining. His focus is now on the development of human-centred AI and interactive visualisation applied to data-rich scenarios where a mixed-initiative mode of operation is necessary.
