As a PhD student, Aline Martinez is studying the ecological role of herbivorous starfish on intertidal rocky shores by looking at their foraging ecology, interactions with other herbivores and their effects on the structure of algal assemblages. This information is important to understand the mechanisms that control the structure of benthic communities, which is crucial to predict and manage potential impacts due to human activities and climate change.
