ABOUT
António Mateus Pinheiro graduated in Applied Biology by the University of Minho and has subsequently developed his master thesis in Neuropsychiatry, under the supervision of Dr. Luísa Pinto, PhD and Prof. Nuno Sousa, MD PhD.
He is currently a PhD student at the School of Health Sciences, under the supervision of Luísa Pinto, PhD, Nuno Sousa, MD, PhD and Daniel H. Geschwind, MD, PhD. The title of his PhD project is "Epigenetic orchestration of neuroplasticity in the post-natal brain." The project aims to characterize the epigenetic signatures present in the healthy brain and in the context of stress-related disorders, such as Depression. Simultaneously, he is also undergoing medical training as an MD student in the same institution.
In 2012, he co-founded the ICVS spin-off Bn'ML - Behavioral and Molecular Lab. Bn'ML offers customized pre-clinical behavioral and molecular analysis services for testing the potential of new therapeutic compounds.
