My very first visit to NDIE was way back in 1998, for the test and interview (essential part of B Ed/IGCE selection process). I completed my B Ed/IGCE in 1999 and went back to Lahore, worked there for about 4 years. My further studies took me to UK. I studied at the University of Leeds and completed my MA Education (General). The focus of my MA Education was the Primary and Secondary curriculum. I started teaching at NDIE in 2005, working on different projects (national and provincial level) in different capacities such as module developer, trainer, and assessment officer. I visited Australian Catholic University (ACU) in 2007 and 2009 as part of my professional development. My 2007 visit to ACU (Melbourne campus) helped me to study the teacher education programmes offered by ACU and other education faculties in Victoria, Australia. I also studied the Practicum modules of ACU and of different educational faculties in Victoria, Australia. My practicum study was focussed on how student teachers are prepared for the Practicum; how they are assessed; the role of participating schools and school based supervisors in assessing the readiness of student-teachers to join the teaching profession etc. While my study of the teacher education programmes was focussed on curriculum and its development at different educational faculties in Victoria, Australia. The 2009 visit to ACU (Brisbane campus) helped me to get ready to teach 'Study of Religions module to B Ed/IGCE students. I read books on world religions, on Religious Education (RE) pedagogy and assessment. The focus of study was different religious education programmes offered to prospective teachers (student teachers), its curriculum, history of RE in Australia and in Queensland state. I also took this opportunity to study books of world religions that were not to be found in Pakistan. Research interests are Comparative Education, Inclusive Education, Curriculum Studies, and Religious Education. Project I am working on is Pre service Teacher Education Progamme in Pakistan. I was part of the team that designed the Foundation Module 2 and also implemented it in the Sindh Province. This module is about teaching skills. I am also part of the team implementing Foundation Module 3. This module is about assessment. My role is to train and support the faculty of the selected Elemenatry Colleges of Education (GECE) in the Sindh Province; help them to improve their content and teaching skills; prepare them to teach the Associate Degree in Education programme. The selected colleges are GECE (W) Hussainabad, Karachi; GECE (W) Hyderabad; and GECE Mithi Projects I have worked on are Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (2008). NDIE was also member of the consortium (SPELT implemented this project). I put togehter the Understanding Learners and Learding section of the Pedagogy Manunal. I was also member of the team that trained Master Trainers to teach Pedagogoy Manual to Youth. Education Sector Reform Assistance Programme (2005-2007). I worked as Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. This progammes was a USAID funded programme and NDIE was a member of the consortium (United Education Initiative). I was also member of the team that designed training modules for Ethics teachers, teaching in Catholic school all across Pakistan. This programme was sponsored by the Pakistan Catholic Bishops Conference. 200 teachers were trained under this programme. My work during summer break: I work with few charities in Lahore. I have been associated with them for the last 10 years. I help the teachers working in slum schools in Lahore and teaching them English. I help these teachers to learn and practice new teaching and assessment methods and strategies. I also work with them and help them to produce material for their students. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION: Master of Arts (General Education), from the University of Leeds, South Yorkshire United Kingdom , completed in April 2005 and university granted me the degree in the summar 2005 convocation (July 2005) Area of specialisation: Curriculum and Evaluation Masters in Education (M Ed), from the Allama Iqbal Open Univeristy, Islamabad Pakistan. Started in Spring 2001 (April 2001) and completed in Autumn 2002 (December 2002) Area of specialisation: Teacher Education Master of Arts (English Literature), from the University of The Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. Completed in 2003 Bachelor of Arts, from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan, completed in 1993. Volunteer Work I worked as teacher, teacher trainer with community based organisations. I also worked as a volunteer teacher, teacher trainer and a consultant with two community based organisations. ACHIEVEMENT / AWARDS / SCHOLARSHIPS: Professional Development Award, Issued by: Notre Dame Institute of Education (2009) I spent three months at the Australian Catholic University’s Brisbane Campus. This award helped me to see how Religious Studies (RE) is taught in Australian schools, study their RE curriculum. I also had the opportunity to study books and magazines on world religions and RE pedagogy and classroom assessment practices. Endeavour Executive Award, Issued by: Federal Government of Australia (2007) I was a visiting scholar at the Australian Catholic University’s Melbourne Campus. I spent three months studying teacher education programmes. I visited many Australian universities during my stay in Melbourne studying their teacher education programme in general and practicum component in particular. I also visited schools and classrooms and observed the roles of school teachers and university faculty in this phase of the teaching qualification programme. I also explored areas of how their practices could be practiced in Pakistani classrooms. Postgraduate Study Scholarship, Issued by: All Saints Educational Trust, UK (2003) Postgraduate Study Scholarship, Issued by: Hockerill Educational Trust, UK (2003) These awards were used to complete my Master of Arts in Education degree from the University of Leeds, Leeds. UK. During my study year in England, I was also invited by these trusts to attend many lectures organized by these trusts. I also visited many schools as part of my course and observed the classroom teaching and assessment practices in English classrooms.
