I am currently appointed as the Director of the Perdana University Centre for Bioinformatics (PU-CBi), Malaysia, Acting Dean of the Perdana University School of Data Sciences (PU-SDS), and Visiting Scientist for the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM), USA. My research interests are in the area of biological data warehousing and applications of bioinformatics to the study of immune responses, vaccines, venom toxins, drug design, and disease biomarkers. I have authored/co-authored more than 40 international, peer-reviewed research and review articles in various international journals, books and conferences, and presented my work at numerous international conferences. I was involved in the development of several novel bioinformatics methodologies, tools, and specialized databases, and currently have three patent applications granted. My teaching experiences have been in bioinformatics, imparting to undergraduate/postgraduate students at the National University of Singapore and to medical and bioinformatics students at Perdana University; and assisted in the supervision of research projects of more than 50 students. I am currently formally supervising four MSc (Bioinformatics) students and co-supervising one PhD student at Perdana University. My publications include three peer-reviewed journal articles and two book chapters on bioinformatics education. I have led the curriculum development of a unique Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics programme ( and an MSc (Bioinformatics) programme (by Research) ( at Perdana University, with the aim of providing students the foundation necessary to manage and mine the wealth of available biological data for knowledge discovery. I am currently an ExCo member and Vice President (Corporate) of the Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNET); I am also a Honorary Director of APBioNET Limited (LTD). My services to the scientific community include as a reviewer for several journals, conferences, and funding agencies, and have donned various important roles in the organization of several local and international bioinformatics conferences, meetings and workshops.
