About

Augusto Esteves is a Research Assistant at M-ITI, where he’s also starting his PhD. He’s working on the SINAIS project under the Carnegie Mellon | Portugal partnership, and he’s responsible for developing tangible interactions relating to users’ energy sustainability. He recently finished his MSc in Informatics Engineering (Human-Computer Interaction) at the University of Madeira. His thesis was on Tangible User Interaction and Embodied Cognition, and won first prize at the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2010. He lives in Madeira and holds a BSc in Computer Science, also from University of Madeira. In his free time he enjoys a good book, and when he can manage, he plays squash and soccer, watches a movie or two, and plays video games. Every now and then he tests software in beta version, most recently Age of Empires Online, StarCraft II, and Steam’s new UI. He’s also a member of Barbusano Ecological Club, CouchSurfing, and Hospitality Club. He actually practices Taekwondo, but previously he trained Judo, Karate and Kung Fu. He has also done two InterRails across Europe. Although having no skills as a photographer, two of his photos are being used in public Websites, more specifically the Schmap!! Prague Guide and MIMOA (mi modern architecture). He’s also the manager of several groups in the Eurogamer online community, and a contributor to the Portuguese blog: Cinema da Madeira. Last but not least, he his the proud owner of an Akita-inu.
