About

I’m a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin. My research interests broadly come under the heading of intelligent information access, basically developing systems and techniques to help people access the right information at the right time in the right way. This means that my research covers areas such as user modeling, information retrieval, recommender systems, case-based reasoning, machine learning and more. I'm also involved in the commercialisation of my research. In 1999 i co-founded ChangingWorlds to bring personalization technology to the mobile sector, and which grew to employ more than 120 people before being acquired by Amdocs Inc in 2008. More recently I am a co-founder of HeyStaks Technologies Ltd., a new startup in the social search space.
