Ben Gu has an MS in Mathematics from Fudan University, Shanghai, and a PhD in Management Science from Renmin University of China, Beijing. He began work in the National Library of China in 1987, and was appointed Director of the Acquisitions & Cataloging Department in 2004, Director of the Chinese Acquisitions & Cataloging Department in 2008, and Director of the Foreign Acquisitions & Cataloging Department in 2011. Since 2005, he has been active in IFLA activities, as a standing committee member of the IFLA Cataloguing Section, as an ISBD Review Group member, as a Permanent UNIMARC Committee member and as an IFLA Journal Editorial Committee member. He has more than 100 publications to his name, covering library science, the book industry, music, and Chinese studies.
