About

• 1989-1995: Degree: Bio-engineer in the Cell- and Gene biotechnology • 1995-2006: Degree: PhD in Applied Biological Sciences. Entitled: Study of the inflammation-associated anaemia in African trypanosomiasis and development of anti-disease and drug-targeting strategies. • 2006-2013: Post-doctoral assistant • 2014-present: Senior post-doctoral researcher Scientific Awards: - Development cooperation prize – edition 2006 Research into the role of myeloid cells – and more specifically macrophages – in the (immuno)pathology of different diseases, going from cancer to parasitic infections, has been one of the major research topics in the laboratory. Their integrated approach has enabled them to uncover the genetic, phenotypic and functional characteristics of myeloid cell populations in different activation states, in different microenvironments and in different tissues. Hereby, they have characterized different macrophage populations using broad range gene-expression profiles and surface markers.
