Beynan Ransom is a student in the Masters of Science program in the Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering Department at the University at Buffalo (UB). His research focus is the use of quantitative and qualitative evaluation criteria for dam removal. This study involves hydraulic and hydrologic studies to assess dam performance, as well as local community input to determine cultural uses within the affected watershed. The present goal of ecosystem restoration science is to create multifunctional, dynamic, and interconnected rivers and riparian areas. The results of this work will further the integration of human and ecosystem services in restoration design of dam affected watersheds.
