An honors student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Braxton Billings is working toward his bachelor’s degree in health care management. In 2012 and 2013, he completed summer internships in perioperative and endoscopy administration at the UAB Hospital. Braxton Billings created a surgical suture audit initiative focused on finding a balance between the amount of sutures used and the quality of the sutures provided. The project was designed to reduce operating expenses by approximately $1 million.
Since mid-2013, Mr. Billings has been active as president of Culverhouse Connections at UAB. He has helped create a network of 150 alumni who serve in mentor roles. He has also led the establishment of the first ever communications-focused student advisory board. Mr. Billings is additionally an executive director and student facilitator with DRIVE. In this capacity, he oversees the mentoring efforts of 200 students at area schools with significant at-risk populations. Braxton Billings is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Golden Key Honor Society.
