Since 1994, Applegate and his company have raised nearly $5 billion in private equity capital to finance growth stage companies in the entertainment, information services, internet and media industries. Its success has enabled the firm to expand its investing activities across three continents. In his leadership role, Brion Applegate identifies companies to invest in and determines the best ways to provide funding and with team members sits on the Board of these interesting businesses. Spectrum Equity Investors offers growth equity capital in size ranging from $25 million to $75 million.
In 2013, Brion Applegate furthered his company's growth through several notable deals. Early May saw Spectrum Equity Investors pay $50 million for a minority stake in Extreme Reach, Inc., a premier television, mobile device, and Internet advertising integration service. The firm also played a crucial role in the merger of top online takeout services Seamless North America LLC and GrubHub, Inc., a deal announced on May 20. At the end of the month, outpatient specialty care provider and Spectrum Equity Investors portfolio company Net Health acquired Integritas, Inc., a developer of integrated clinical electronic medical records and practice management solutions.
