About

Dr. Carlos Vila is the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering Systems and Design and the coordinator of the Master of Design and Manufacturing. He is Senior Lecturer of manufacturing technology in Jaume I University of Castellón (Spain), and head of the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Design. He received a MSc in Nuclear Engineering from Polytechnic University of Valencia and his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the University in 1993 and since then he has been lecturing on Fundamentals of Manufacturing Processes, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, Automated Process and Computer Integrated Manufacturing on the Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Masters Degree, and Modelling and Integration Techniques on the Engineering Doctorate Programme. He has set up the Integrated Design and Manufacturing Laboratory and he has been involved in various national research projects around implementing concurrent engineering with automotive parts suppliers and the ceramic tile supply chain. Dr. Vila is the person in charge of Product and Process Integrated Design and Development Division pertaining to the Centre for the Innovation of Industrial Companies (CINEI). The division has several laboratories with a High Speed Machining Centre, Turning Centre, dynamometric table and a Flexible Manufacturinfg system with a Coordinate Measurement Machine, as Assembly robotized Cell and automated transport. The division has also rapid prototyping machines ans seral software tools such PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) tools, PDM (Product Data Management) tool, CAD/CAE/CAM tools (ProEngineer, Catia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD Moldflow) and simulation of discreet events for production plants analysis (Delmia, Taylor II, Deneb, etc.). He is author of some books, book chapters, several research works published at international journals and more than thirteen conference proceedings.
