About

I am currently the Dean of Science at the University of Waikato. I have previously held positions as: Head of School of Science at the University of Waikato; Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at CQUniversity; Director of the National Centre for Marine Conservation and Resource Sustainability at University of Tasmania; Chief Technical Officer – Marine Biosecurity for the New Zealand Government; and Invasion Biologist at CSIRO Centre for Research on Introduced Marine Pests as Leader of the Invasion Processes Group. My research portfolio revolves around the role humans play in changing the natural world, particularly in marine systems, and how natural science can influence management and policy, specifically related to marine invasions. In addition, I have participated in capacity building activities for governance and biosecurity frameworks with small island states and other developing countries throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
