About

Dr. Chris R. Glass is an Assistant Professor of Educational Foundations and Leadership at Old Dominion University. His research examines the formation and evolution of the social networks of international students who attend U.S. colleges and universities. He also researches how computer-mediated communication affects academic work and workplaces. Dr. Glass takes a social psychological approach to researching issues in American higher education, with an interest in how the presence of others affects educational outcomes such as achievement, motivation, and social development. He is a lead researcher on the Global Perspective Inventory (GPI) which examines the relationship between educational experiences and global learning outcomes based survey responses of 70,000 undergraduates, including over 5,000 international students, at 135 American colleges and universities. Dr. Glass has published articles in the Journal of Educational Psychology, the International Journal of Intercultural Relations, the Journal of Studies in International Education, New Directions For Higher Education, the Journal of General Education, the Journal of Higher Education Outreach & Engagement, and the SAGE Handbook on Civic and Political Leadership. He has presented at international, national, and state level conferences, including the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the Association for the Study of Higher Education, and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Prior to coming to Old Dominion University, he worked at Michigan State University in multiple administrative roles including, the Institute for Research on Teaching and Learning (IRTL), the Global Institute for Higher Education, and the National Center For The Study of University Engagement (NCSUE).
