I am currently a M.S. student of aerospace engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, researching artificial intelligence in the context of astrodynamics. I am trying to prove the feasibility of using deep machine learning architectures for real-time autonomous spacecraft trajectory optimization. Essentially, a spacecraft should be able to independently make abstract inferences in uncertain environments and intelligently design a trajectory that minimizes (or maximizes) some measure of performance (propellant consumption, time, etc.) while satisfying a set of constraints (radiation, hardware limitations, etc.), in real-time.
