Claudia Padovani (PhD in International Relations, 1997) is senior lecturer in Political Science and International Relations at the Department of Historical and Political Studies, University of Padova, Italy.
She is a member of the International Council of the IAMCR where she also chairs the Working Group on Global Media Policy and participate in the association Policy Task Force set up in 2002. She is also member of the European Communication for Research and Education Association (ECREA, former vice-chair of the Communication and democracy Section) and of the Italian Society for Political Science (SISP, chair of the International Political Communication standing group). She is member of the Inaugural Advisory Board of the series entitled Information Technology and Global Governance, published by Palgrave Macmillan. She also serves on the editorial boards of the Anuario ININCO. Investigaciones de la comunicacion (Venezuela), of Continuum. Journal of Media and Cultural Studies and of the Italian journal Partecipazione e conflitto.
During the academic year 2009/2010 Padovani has been visiting Professor at McGill University, Montreal, developing research and institutional collaboration with the Department of Art History and Communication Studies and Media@McGill. She is also counterpart for a series of Erasmus exchanges at the University of Padova (with Belgium, Finland, Greece and Portugal)
Claudia Padovani teaches courses in International Communication (master degree in Communication of Strategies) and in Institutions and Governance of Communication (master degree in International Politics and Diplomacy) while tutoring several master thesis. Some 10 of her former students have successfully proceeded to PhD scholarship, in prestigious institutions, including the European University Institute, l’Ecole des Mines of Paris, the University of Trento.
She has published several articles and contributions in the areas of global transformations, governance processes and communication issues, with a specific focus on the UN promoted World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and follow up processes (Internet Governance Forum, IGF).
Padovani has organized several international seminars: International colloquium on Network and changes in Global Media and Communication Governance (Venice, June 2009); ECREA Conference panel within the Communication and Democracy section: Critical reflections on the nexus between media and democracy (Barcelona, November 2008); International colloquium on Global Media Policy Mapping: concepts, frameworks and methods (Venice, May 2008); Panel on Networks and movements: an interdisciplinary conversation. Claudia Padovani has experience in non-academic setting, having worked as project coordinator and performed training, outreach and networking functions for NGOs, in areas related to international development cooperation and human rights (1994-1998). She has on-going connection with non-governmental trans-national initiatives.
