About

I am professional engineer (P. Eng), located in Brisbane, working for RISC Advisory. In recent years, I have been focusing on the development of Coalbed methane (CBM) and Shale gas projects in China, Indonesia, India, Australia, Scotland, and international locations. Much of my work involves DST, DFIT, Well Testing, Rate forecasting, and history matching of CBM data - with emphasis on production optimization for long term deliverability. Due Diligence and reservoir engineering audits are also a key portion of my work. In terms of research and software, I have been involved in the development of semi-analytical simulation models for fluid flow of porous media, particularly semi-analytical modeling of complex wells in arbitrarily shaped reservoirs. The subject matter is similar to Boundary Element Methods (BEM) and Analytical Element Methods (AEM) which both use a series of sources and sinks to create complex reservoir environments. I have taught academic and industrial short courses, published a number of articles, and has been a public speaker for approximately 15 years. He has an excellent background in mathematics (algebra, calculus, trigonometry, numerical methods, computational mathematics, transform methods) as well as general science (physics, geology, basic chemistry). During 2009, I co-taught, with BOE Solutions Inc, "Complex Well Analysis & Reservoir Engineering Methods for Unconventional Gas" at the 11th Annual Unconventional Gas Conference (Calgary) held by the Canadian Society for Unconventional Gas (CSUG) As a consultant, I have performed/supervised the design & development of engineering/scientific software for petroleum & geological applications. I have has also supervised the analysis & evaluation petroleum data for optimizing oil/gas exploration/ production projects in a number of regions including Canada, The United States, Europe, Africa (Angola, Offshore DST), and more. Areas of expertise include CBM/Shale gas development with emphasis on deliverability forecasting and production diagnostics for vertical and complex well completions. I also have experience in Gas Storage. I have designed several commercial engineering software packages for rate and pressure transient analysis of conventional and unconventional gas wells as well as oil reservoirs. Other tools include nodal analysis, PVT, and multi-well reservoir simulators. During this time, I have been very lucky to work with many academic leaders including Dr. Christopher Clarkson (EnCana Chair in Unconventional Gas at the University of Calgary); Louis Mattar (President of Fekete Associates & Adjunct Prof. at the University of Calgary); Dr. Thomas Blasingame (Texas A&M University); and Dr. Peter Valko (Texas A&M University); as well as Dr. Laurie Sibbald (who obtained a degree in Engineering Physics prior to pursuing Chemical/Petroleum engineering). I worked with many great engineers (and more) including Trevor Thompson (Sr. Reservoir/Exploitation Engineer at Pennwest); Cooper Smith (Technology Information/Sr. Developer); and Jesse Williams-Kovacs (PhD/MSc Graduate from the University of Calgary). Bruce Gunn and Geoff Barker (co-author of the SPE PRMS) are the most recent experts I encountered, both with strong RE skills and expertise - particularly coal seam gas.
