About

I have completed my PhD in Medical Biochemistry in the field of immunology and have gained experience in the management of a BSL-3 laboratory and virus culture since joining the Division of Medical Virology in 2004. I have been supervising postgraduate students since 2004 and am the chairperson of the Division Medical Virology’s Postgraduate Program Committee since 2011. I also have a special interest in paediatric immunology and had been involved in several studies in babies and infants, including antibody responses to routine EPI vaccines over time, as well as the immunological profile of HIV exposed, but uninfected infants in Cape Town. I am currently involved in research in collaboration with the Forensic Pathology Department of Stellenbosch University, investigating sudden and unexpected death in infants.
