About

I was born in subtropical south-east China but grew up snow-bound on the prairies of central Canada. I did my undergrad at the University of Toronto specializing in Molecular Genetics with a nearly-completed minor in Evolutionary Biology. I now study the molecular evolution of visual pigments (opsins). I've worn glasses since I was 4, have been legally blind since I was 17, and my childhood opthamologist once told me that I'd go on to do great things in vision - I suspect this isn't quite what he had in mind.
