My main research interests focus on marine benthos, especially polychaetes, highlighting the following areas: Taxonomy, Ecology and Biology, with emphasis on symbiotic species. My current projects covers the following issues: Environmental impact, biology and ecology of macrofauna from protected areas, Taxonomy and biodiversity, Sponge-microbia-polychaete symbiosis. I have 167 scientific publications, 90 of them in SCI journals. I have collaborated in ca. 40 public research projects and 20 R & D agreements with companies and / or administrations. I have participated in 60 conferences (having presented 63 communications). I am member of the Marine Biological Association of United Kingdom, the International Polychaete Association, The systematics Assoiation of Uk and the Linnean Society of London. I have directed four PhD theses and I am Scientific Consultant for more than 50 international journals. Also I am Associated Editor for Scientia Marina, memebr of the scientific committee of Invertebrate Zoology, and Review Editor of Marine Systematics and Taxonomy for Frontiers in Marine Science.
