Darrin is an internationally recognised CFD modeller with a background in modelling a range of complex reacting multi-phase flows, in particular developing models for heat transfer and boiling. He has previously held positions at SRI (Sugar Research Institute), with the ANSYS CFX agent in Australia and CSIRO. While at SRI he led the development of CFD models for a number of unit processes allowing re-design and optimisation (e.g. evaporators and vacuum pans), improving throughput and efficiencies, allowing Australian sugar mills to remain viable despite lower international sugar prices. At CSIRO he collaborated with the CFX development team in the UK to implement the next generation of population balance models within ANSYS-CFX’s coupled solver technology. Whilst also being a key researcher, developing CFD and numerical models for a range of hydrometallurgical unit processes. Darrin now runs his own company (Wikki Australia) and focuses on the development support and training for OpenFOAM. His professional interests include optimisation and optimisation algorithms (neural nets, genetic algorithms methods etc) and the development of next generation hybrid and multi-physics models.
