About

David A. Randolph is Principal Staff Software Engineer at Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo company) and a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His research interests include educational technology, music computing, natural language processing (NLP), and biomedical informatics. At UIC, he is advised by Prof. Barbara Di Eugenio and is affiliated with the NLP Laboratory. Prior to joining Motorola in 1999, Mr. Randolph was Staff Software Engineer at IBM Printing Systems, Associate Editor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a teacher in the Illinois public schools. He earned a BS in secondary education (teaching of English) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989, a BS in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996, a graduate certificate in bioinformatics from UIC in 2006, and an ME in computer science from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2009. He used to be a pretty fanatical trumpeter and guitarist, but that was before he let school take over his life again. He lives (both physically and psychologically) somewhere between Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Chicago, Illinois, with his wife, Lynn, and their two lively and shining daughters, Zoe and Lucy.
