Dr. Behera is a Nuclear Medicine physician by training. During his clinical training in India, he worked in a variety of settings including public and private hospitals and individual clinics. After his residency, he worked clinically for a couple of years, during which period he helped set up and launch a radiology clinic. As a researcher, he continues to apply his knowledge of molecular and functional imaging into designing new clinical and pre-clinical medical imaging methods and novel treatment approaches for chronic pain. His areas of pre-clinical research involve use of PET, SPECT, MRI, CT and optical imaging to investigate novel molecular imaging techniques for evaluation of nociception and neural inflammation in the peripheral nervous system. He is fairly proficient in use of several biomedical image analysis concepts and programs, research design and statistics and has an in-depth understanding of biomedical imaging. He is also involved in the administrative activities of the laboratory as well as mentoring new members and visiting scholars. His work has resulted in several peer-reviewed journal publications as well as scientific presentations in several national and international conferences. Some of these presentations have been acknowledged with awards. Dr. Behera is a peer-reviewer for some well-known radiology journals. His goal is to create and be a part of collaborative research platforms using molecular imaging to identify and treat peripheral chronic pain generators.
