Remote Sensing GIS Environmental Monitoring using Geoinformatics Civil Engineering

About

Dr. Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering & Geomatics. He has more than 400 publications in the field of remote sensing, GIS, environmental monitoring using geoinformatics and civil engineering (life cycle, materials etc). He undertook his PhD and MPhil (1996-1999) in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing intended for environmental applications (water quality surveillance and air pollution monitoring) from the University of Surrey, Department of Civil Engineering (UK). His PhD Thesis was sponsored by Thames Water Ltd and during the PhD studies he received an ORS Scholarship and a Faculty of Engineering Scholarship. He obtained a First Class BEng. (Honours) Degree in Civil Engineering (1994-1996). Diofantos was awarded the Felix Pulzer Memorial Prize for the best Performance in Civil Engineering courses during his second year of the BEng programme. He obtained a First class Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Dipl.) from the Higher Technical Institute and he received the Cyprus National Guard Prize for the best Performance in Civil Engineering Project during his Diploma Studies in the period 1989-1992. Diofantos obtained a distinction MSc award in Real Estate and Property Management, from the University of Salford in the UK (2005-2007). Dr Hadjimitsis worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Surrey (UK), as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Visiting Research Scientist in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Southampton (UK). He worked at the Frederick Institute of Technology (Department of Civil Engineering) from the posts of lecturer and assistant professor. Dr Hadjimitsis was working in the construction industry on managing and supervising various town-planning projects (road-works) in Cyprus. He worked also as a managing director of a consultancy company working in the fields of remote sensing and GIS. He has been appointed as a Consultant by governmental departments in the fields of remote sensing, GIS and construction of town-planning projects. Dr Hadjimitsis is a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) and is the President of the Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers, Paphos Branch since 2003. Diofantos was a member of several UK, European and International committees and working groups in the areas of Satellite Remote Sensing and Geo-informatics. His main research interests are focused on: satellite remote sensing and GIS for civil and environmental engineering applications, construction management, pavements and materials for highway construction, geodesy applications etc.
